Moving-in to a new house is one of the most difficult things to do. Cleaning the new house before moving is one of the most important things we can do to reduce many future troubles and difficulties. In the following, you can read some important tips in house cleaning before moving-in.
Clean the walls of the house before moving-in
If the previous owners did not repaint the house recently and you do not intend to do so, now clean the painted or veneered walls. Make sure you do not damage the color or texture of your walls.
First remove the dust and spider webs, then, use a soft cloth to clean the walls. Vinegar is an environment-friendly and safe cleanser that kills most molds and germs. Pay special attention to the top of the doors, power switches and air conditioner vents and clean them well.
Cleaning and disinfecting the kitchen
Use warm soapy water or a mixture of baking soda and water to clean your stove. Baking soda is a gentle cleanser that helps remove stains but does not scratch the surface.
Remove oven racks and clean with soapy water. Then remove and wash the shelves and drawers of the refrigerator and clean the inside with warm water and soap (or a mixture of water and vinegar). Clean cabinets, shelves and counters, but avoid using vinegar on marble. To get rid of the smell of the sink and prevent it from clogging, pour a cup of baking soda into the drain and then a cup of white vinegar.
To clean the sink, it is safe to use vinegar on stubborn stains in the sink or to use baking soda and vinegar. After cleaning the stains, a solution of water and lemon juice will make the sink shine. To cleaning the cabinets, wipe them with a soft cloth, and clean all the inside and outside surfaces. Do not forget the upper part of the cabinet door.
Do not forget to clean the hood as well. These can be very greasy, but fortunately most of them have filters that can be washed. Open them and wash according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Cleaning and disinfecting toilets and bathrooms
Clean out-of-sight areas such as under the toilet and behind the toilet. Wash all tiles, tub and sink with a cleanser made of baking soda and vinegar. There are many chemicals available to clean your bathroom, but baking soda and vinegar also work well. You can also use them to clean the bathtub. Use vinegar in the toilet and clean the tiles with a brush. Some people like to change the toilet seat in a new house. This may sound obvious that a toilet seat is probably the dirtiest spot in a house. Instead of taking the time to clean them, remove them and replace them with a brand new one. Replacing old toilet seat with a new one is easy and will make you feel good and fresh.
Cleaning and disinfecting floors and carpets before moving-in
Most surfaces can be washed with soap and mild water. Make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your floor type. Steam cleaning removes stubborn stains. If you have the right equipment, you can also clean wooden floors. Do not steam unsealed hardwood floors, as water can seep into them and damage the floor.
You can hire someone to come to your new house and check for pests to prevent uninvited home invaders.
