24 Exit cleaning tips

moving out of your rental house

You have a thousand different things on your mind when you’re moving out of your rental house or condo, and end-of-lease cleaning (also known as “exit cleaning” or “bond cleaning“) isn’t one of them. Unfortunately, the end-of-lease cleaning process is not one that can be completed quickly. In this case, a very thorough and precise cleaning is needed. If you want to know which areas of the house must be cleaned during exit cleaning, read this article all the way through and make a note of this end-of-lease cleaning checklist so you don’t forget anything.

24 Exit cleaning tips

  5. Vacuum all carpeted surfaces, even around the skirting boards.
  6. Inside and out, windows must be swept. Both fly windows, as well as all window and door tracks, should be cleaned. It is necessary to clean the window and door sills.
  7. Material drapes must be washed or dry cleaned before being rehung.
  8. Remove the cobwebs and flies from all light fixtures and shades.
  9. Dust and stains must be removed from all switches and cover plates.

  • Clean and sanitize any hard surface, including the bathtub, shower recesses, the frame and tapware, sink, benchtop, hand sink, and towel racks, with an effective cleanser. Clean the exhaust fan grill and wipe off the mirror. The toilet tank, seat, and cistern must all be washed and cleaned properly.
  • Clean the inside of the washing cabinet as well as the laundry tub. Wipe off the taps, the tiled splashback, and the cabinet. Clean the machine bowl, bottom, and filter if necessary.
  • Dust and lint must be removed from the dryer filter, and the exteriors must be cleaned.
  • Every tiled skirting should be dusted.
  • Carpets must be washed and restored to their original state.
  • Brush guttering, downpipes, soffits, and eaves with a broom and hose.
  • Clear any cobweb and insect from the drape.
  • Sweep the floor and surrounding areas to clear any oil or grease stains.
  • To clear dust from the exterior of garage doors, brush them down and spray them out. Within and out, clean the walls, even the screens.
